This Thursday, at The Hub in Philadelphia, US veterans will have an opportunity to fund their entrepreneurial dreams as a part of the Greater Philadelphia Veterans Network’s (GPVN) 2nd Annual Veteran Entrepreneur “Shark Tank” Business Pitch Event. One company pitching its business plans to the city’s local CEOs is Osiris Biomed 3D, a startup hoping to create 3D printed patient-specific implants.
Osiris Biomed 3D has not specified which types of implants the company will pursue, but says that, with their proprietary software, doctors will be able to create 3D printed implants from patients’ medical scans all during a surgical procedure, as long as the FDA approves. Osiris has already applied for a patent around “single anesthetic reconstructive surgery” in which a patient is scanned, a personally-tailored medical device or implant is printed, sterilized and installed in the span of a single procedure. This, the company believes, “will decrease the lead time to surgery, decrease the number of surgical operations and hospital visits for patients, and decrease cost to both hospitals and patients.” To put a military spin on the tech, Osiris plans their CONEX process to be mobile so that the military may use it while in battle.…
